  2. By Email – cwpquestions@sled.sc.gov
SC CWP Reciprocity

In order to view the most up-to-date information about which states share reciprocity with South Carolina you should visit SLED’s website by clicking here.

Please note: even if a state shares reciprocity with South Carolina you must adhere to that state’s laws. Always check and be sure of those laws before traveling through a state.

I'm active/prior military or law-enforcement. Do I have to get a CWP?

Active/retired military will need a CWP in order to concealed carry in this state. However, you only need complete the legals portion of the class and the written test. Just bring a copy of your DD-214 with you to class and we’ll take care of the rest.

Retired law-enforcement also only need to take the legals portion of the class. Just bring in your credentials.

Active law-enforcement do not have to have a CWP, but it makes the process of purchasing a handgun easier. However, you do not need to take a CWP class in order to obtain your CWP.  You simply need to send in your application to SLED, along with a copy of your credentials and a printed copy of your ACADIS showing you’re up-to-date on firearms qualification and legals training.

You can find out more details by clicking here.

What forms do I need?

Most people will need the following forms. You can print these and fill them out before class to save yourself some time later, or we will supply them for you during class:

The following are for information only and do not need to be brought to class:

Where should I go to get fingerprinted?

Here, you have a few options:

  1. We can do the fingerprints for you on the day of your class for no additional fee
  2. For a small fee your local police department will usually provide you with two sets of fingerprints. If you choose this option be sure to bring them to class.
  3. Fastest and best option – you can submit all of your documents, including fingerprints, through Identogo by following the instructions here. You’ll attend the class, then take your completed application and student checklist to your appointment with Identogo. They’ll take your fingerprints electronically, then submit everything together to SLED through their system. There is no charge for using this service, and your application is usually processed much faster than those sent via the postal service.
Where can I find South Carolina gun laws?
