Florida’s Second Amendment Debate: A Closer Look

The recent remarks by Parkland survivor Jaclyn Corin criticizing Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi have reignited a familiar debate about gun control, personal freedom, and constitutional rights in America. As the conversation around firearms continues to evolve, it is crucial for citizens to examine the facts and fully understand what’s at stake, especially for those of us who proudly stand behind the Second Amendment.

Media Bias and Misrepresentation of Pro-2A Officials

Corin’s criticism of AG Pam Bondi in Time Magazine paints Bondi as being complicit in gun violence due to her support of pro-gun rights legislation. But this is a classic tactic employed by left-leaning activists and media outlets: target anyone who dares to support the Constitution and claim they are part of the problem. In reality, Bondi’s stance aligns with a growing population of patriots who understand that stripping law-abiding citizens of their rights won’t solve violent crime. If anything, it creates a larger burden on individual safety and hinders our ability to protect ourselves and our families.

The Real Threat to Public Safety

Instead of blaming inanimate objects or law-abiding gun owners, it’s time we focused our attention on the true sources of gun violence—failing mental health systems, breakdowns in family structure, and repeat offenders who continue to bypass existing laws. Tying law-abiding citizens’ hands behind their backs with more restrictions is not a solution, it’s a political play. Here are just a few inconvenient truths the mainstream media won’t highlight:

  • Over 90% of firearm-related crimes are committed with illegally obtained guns
  • Background checks and red flag laws already exist in many states—including Florida
  • The right to self-defense is recognized in Florida’s own “Stand Your Ground” laws

It’s not about more laws—it’s about enforcing existing ones and providing citizens with the ability to defend themselves confidently and legally.

Firearms Training: Empowering, Not Endangering

At Fortress Firearms Training, we witness every day how education—not legislation—is the best method for reducing gun violence. Responsible gun ownership starts with proper firearms training, situational awareness, and respect for the law. When community members are properly trained, they become part of the solution, not part of the problem.

We offer comprehensive courses that focus on:

  • Safe firearm handling and storage
  • Defensive handgun training
  • Understanding South Carolina state carry laws
  • Real-world application in life-threatening scenarios

Unlike what some activists may suggest, we do not glorify violence. We teach responsibility, awareness, and discipline. Armed individuals who are educated are far less likely to mishandle their firearms than those who are untrained. It’s basic logic—and common sense.

The Dangerous Push for More Control

Corin and her fellow activists at “March for Our Lives” continue to vocalize their desire for aggressive and sweeping gun control policies. These suggestions may sound compassionate on the surface, but they’re often rooted in emotion and misinformation rather than logic and constitutional law. Banning firearms or introducing convoluted laws punishes those who follow rules, not the criminals who ignore them.

Let’s not forget: the right to keep and bear arms was not about duck hunting. It was set in place to protect individuals from tyranny and to preserve their natural rights. As more public officials like Pam Bondi stand up for these principles, we should be supporting them—not vilifying them—as Corin suggests.

A Reality Check on Parkland

The Parkland tragedy was a failure of enforcement and prevention—not the Second Amendment. There were multiple red flags regarding the shooter, including clear mental health concerns and prior interactions with law enforcement. These signals were ignored or brushed aside, leading to avoidable loss. It wasn’t a lack of legislation—it was a lack of action by those already in power. So the idea that more gun laws would have prevented the tragedy is not only dishonest—it’s dangerous.

Here’s What Needs to Happen Instead:

  • Strengthen mental health resources
  • Hold public institutions accountable for known breaches in safety
  • Promote responsible gun ownership through mandatory training programs like those offered at Fortress Firearms Training

Final Thoughts: Freedom or Fear?

The ongoing attempt to demonize gun owners and advocates, like Pam Bondi, is nothing new. What is new, however, is the growing number of citizens standing up and saying, “Enough.” We will not surrender our rights or our families’ safety to appease a distorted narrative. It’s time we focused on the real problems and equipped our people with real solutions.

If we care about public safety, then let’s talk about what truly works: education, preparation, and freedom—not more restrictions that strip us of our constitutional rights.

Stand with Fortress Firearms Training. Stand with freedom.
