Upholding the Second Amendment: A Right Worth Defending
At Fortress Firearms Training here in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, we believe in the foundational principles that make our nation extraordinary—chief among them, our Constitution and the rights it guarantees all citizens. Among these, the Second Amendment stands as a pillar of freedom, ensuring every American the right to keep and bear arms for their protection and defense of liberty. Sadly, this cherished right continues to come under attack, not just from politicians and legislators, but increasingly from the institutions shaping young minds—our universities.
A Disturbing Assault on Constitutional and Religious Values
Recently, at the University of Southern Maine, a disturbing event unfolded that should raise alarms for anyone who cares about the rule of law, academic freedom, and the preservation of our natural rights. A college professor, instead of cultivating an environment of open dialogue and respect for differing viewpoints, ridiculed and demeaned a student who dared to defend their Second Amendment rights and Christian faith in an essay.
According to reports, the student wrote a paper supporting the right to bear arms and did so through the lens of their deeply held religious convictions. Rather than grade the paper with objectivity and professionalism, the professor responded with scathing, personal attacks—mocking the student’s values and calling the essay “atrophied drivel.” Not only is this a blatant display of academic bias, but it borders on ideological persecution.
The Danger of Silencing Pro-Second Amendment Voices
When students can no longer express their viewpoints on constitutional rights without fear of ridicule or retribution, we must ask—what direction is our country heading? The incident at this Maine university is a clear reminder that the anti-gun agenda is not restricted to legislative halls in Washington or blue-state capitals. It’s spreading through classrooms, textbooks, and lectures, attempting to shame and silence anyone who dares to oppose it.
Let’s not kid ourselves. The goal here isn’t intelligent debate—it’s indoctrination. They wish to undermine beliefs that don’t align with their narrative and erode support for the Second Amendment by stigmatizing those who champion it.
Why Firearms Training Is More Important Than Ever
At Fortress Firearms Training, we see firsthand how Americans from all walks of life seek to responsibly exercise their Second Amendment rights. Whether it’s for self-defense, home protection, or as a way to ensure autonomy in an uncertain world, our clients pursue firearms education with respect and commitment.
We offer a range of courses that not only teach firearm safety and marksmanship, but also instill an understanding of the historical and legal significance of gun rights in America. In a time when our cultural institutions increasingly demonize gun ownership and personal liberty, education becomes both an act of empowerment and defiance.
- Concealed Carry Permit Classes – Providing legal instruction and operational training needed to carry confidently and lawfully.
- Defensive Pistol Courses – Teaching situational awareness and responsive action for real-world self-defense scenarios.
- Women’s Firearms Training – Empowering women with the skills and knowledge to protect themselves and their families.
- Church Security Training – Ensuring congregations have the knowledge and preparedness necessary in today’s world of unpredictable threats.
We believe that the right to bear arms isn’t just constitutional—it’s moral. There is tremendous grace and responsibility in standing up to evil and guarding the people we love. And that’s a lesson that needs to be taught long before a college freshman shows up in someone’s Political Science 101 lecture.
Faith and Freedom Go Hand in Hand
It’s worth noting that the student mocked in this case wasn’t just defending the Second Amendment—he was expressing his Christian faith. That’s no coincidence. Time and again, those who attempt to strip us of our gun rights also show disdain for Biblical values and conservative ethics. These ideals, once considered cornerstones of American society, are now under constant threat from a radicalized academic and political left bent on moral relativism and authoritarian control.
We believe that faith and freedom aren’t separate—they’re intertwined. Our founders understood this intimately. Consider the words of George Washington, who once said, “A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined.” These were men who relied on both their Creator and their arms to secure freedom for generations to come.
The Cost of Complacency
Make no mistake—what happened in Maine is not an isolated incident. It is a microcosm of a much larger battle raging across our nation. Our rights are being chipped away through legislation, bureaucratic overreach, and cultural coercion. And if we remain silent, we risk losing not just our right to bear arms, but the freedom to speak our minds and practice our faith.
Here in South Carolina, we’re fortunate to have leaders and communities largely supportive of our God-given rights, but we cannot let our guard down. We must continue to support pro-Second Amendment policies, challenge unconstitutional gun control efforts, and educate the next generation on the value of liberty.
